The objective in “Althea’s Ashes” is to raid a Charr temple and recover Lady Althea’s remains; however, there’s a peculiar trick to this quest that can make it very profitable: you can get multiple copies of the objective item and sell FFXI Gil them other players.

Here’s a brief walkthrough for doing so. Bringing along a party of henchmen or other players is advised if you’re attempting this while progressing through the story:

In Piken Square, talk to Duke Barradin to receive the quest, He’ll hand you a Barradin Family Urn.

Abandon the quest and request it again to get a second urn. Repeat this process until you have as many urns as you feel like bringing. You’ll be able to get one copy of Althea’s Ashes for each urn.

From Grendich Courthouse (if you haven’t been there yet, see section 4.2.3, “From post-Searing Ascalon City to Yak’s Bend” heading for directions to this outpost), exit to Diessa Lowlands, head east, and then go northeast off the road as soon as possible.

When you reach the dried up lake bed, go to its northeast corner and look for a narrow valley leading east. Go through it.

Enter the tar lake and go northeast. Watch out for swarms of devourers here.
